So you aren't totally satisfied with where you are in life.
Things aren't bad per se, yet you still feel somewhat dissatisfied and unfulfilled.
You find yourself sitting around at times wondering, 'Is this it?'
Deep down, however, you know that it is possible, that it must be possible, to feel more fulfilled in life.
In this post, I am going to outline some tips on exactly how you can get to where you want to be, and how you can begin feeling more fulfilled and satisfied with your life, starting today.
If you don't follow these tips you are likely to stay stuck where you are, and unlikely to get to where you want to be!
Tip #1: Get clear on where you want to be (and commit to getting there!).
A clear mind = a fun time!
I could probably write an entire blog post on just this topic alone.
However, the trick with this is to make sure that you are as clear and specific as possible. You might think, 'Well, I don't know where I want to be'. However, give it a little more effort and you might surprise yourself. Focus on what you do know.
How do you want to be spending your time? Who do you want to be with? Where do you want to be? How much money do you want to be making? If all this were to happen, how would you feel?
Many factors can play into your vision of where you want to be, so you'll need to be able to sift through all the crap from external sources that may be distracting you from what it is that you really want.
Sifting through all the crap (aka. the 'expectations' and the 'shoulds') is no overnight process. A good place to start is by getting to know yourself better, by getting clear on your values, your strengths, your passions, your skills, and becoming aware of those beliefs which may be holding you back.
Make sure once you are clear on where you want to be, that you PUBLICLY commit to getting there.
Tell a few people close to you, tell lots of friends & family, or tell everyone you know by posting it on Facebook; whatever works best for you and your style!
Tip #2: Surround yourself with people who have/are what you want.
Who are these people for you?
There is always a gap between where we are and where we want to be. Surrounding yourself with the right passionate people that inspire you is the fastest way to fill it.
I hired a business coach/mentor for the first 6 months of running my business. I hired this particular coach because she had what I wanted -- she has built a successful coaching business for herself, where she is completely location independent and able to work from anywhere in the world. That was all I needed to know in order to be willing to hire her as a coach; I could learn from her because she had created what I wanted. Attending conferences related to my desires, for me, has also been a great way to meet people that have/are what I want.
Who has or is doing what you want? Who is exactly how you want to be in the world? How can you connect with these people and/or spend time with them? How can you learn from them?
Tip #3: Be willing to learn & be open to change.
The route to getting to where you want to be will not always come in the way you expect. Be open to whatever opportunities come along.
How curious & open are you?
When I first started my coaching business, it did not occur to me to hire a mentor coach, I simply wanted to find someone willing to gift me their mentorship. When I was approached with the opportunity to pay for a coach, I grabbed the opportunity (even though it wasn't what I had had in mind initially). In the end, I was grateful to be paying for my mentorship so I felt free to ask for whatever I needed, and without it, I would likely not have had a clue about how to build my business or market it!
Also, Tip #2 will only be beneficial if you are willing to learn from the people who have/are what you want, and if you are willing to create changes in your life based on what you learn from them. In other words, you have to be willing to integrate what you learn from these people, and then take action on it!
Knowledge is useless unless you are willing to use it and take action.
Tip #4: Trust the Process
“Detach from needing to have things work out a certain way. The universe is perfect and there are no failures. Give yourself the gift of detaching from your worries and trust that everything is happening perfectly.” — Orin
How do you tap into your inner space of knowing?Imagine you hold the desire, and you hold the dream; you surround yourself with people living your dream; you are open to learning from them and taking action upon what you learn. All that is left now is to have faith & trust.
The idea of Faith is something that is lacking in mainstream society; it is typically not revered by the scientific mind. This makes it an often frightening & courageous endeavour to apply faith & trust in our lives, but it is absolutely essential when it comes to living out your desires.
Without faith & trust in your inner knowing, and your greater Purpose, you will likely fall into the crap (aka. the expecations & the 'shoulds') that will force you into living a life for others, out of touch with your true self.
In what/whom do you hold faith? In what force/whom do you trust? How do you tap into your inner knowing, that place where faith & trust reside, when you need it?
Tip #5: Enjoy the Journey!
Don't be so focused on what you desire that you forget to enjoy the moment.
What brings you joy? This is something I have struggled with myself, as I often become so incredibly fixated on my goals & desires that I completely forget to enjoy the moment & have fun!
I'll repeat what I wrote before:
There is always a gap between where we are and where we want to be.
This might momentarily dissolve as soon as we achieve a new goal, but it won't be long before a new desire fills its place. It is our blessing and our curse as humans, depending on how we use & respond to this tendency. Either way, this gap isn't likely to go away.
How can you find a balance between desiring to be or do something in the future, and enjoying your life as it is in this moment? If you were living out that balance every day, how would you show up in the world?
How do you want to be in the world?
Start being that person right now.
Here's to getting to where you want to be (while still enjoying your life today).
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
